YVONNE CARMEN BIO
Born into the Joanides family of circus performers, Yvonne Carmen is a fifth generation performing artist. Her European parents came to the United States in 1947 as performers with the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. They fell in love with this country and made Sarasota their home.
Making her professional debut at the tender age of only three years, Yvonne is considered internationally “the first lady of the unicycle.” Gaining world-wide acclaim not only as a unicyclist and juggler, Yvonne presents a trick which no other female performer has been able to duplicate: tossing six sets of cups and saucers, one by one, to her head while peddling a six-foot unicycle with just one foot. This balanced stack is topped off by tossing a spoon, in the same manner, into the top cup. Yvonne considers that the tricky part!
