Chappy Crappy

Stanford Chaparral 90th CoverChaparral 80 Something CoverChaparral Enviormental Issue

via Mystery Playhouse 90.1 FM

Kuersteiner moved to Palo Alto and worked at KZSU Stanford 90.1FM around 1986/1990. While there, he also joined up with The Stanford Chaparral humor magazine, eventually becoming the business manager. He contributed several stories and cartoons to the publication, as well as three covers (shown above). But not surprisingly, it was audio contributions that he enjoyed the most. For the 90th anniversary issue, he produced a flexi disc that was included inside the issue. It featured older comedy recordings found at KZSU from previous Chappy members (who's names, sadly, are not known), as well as newer material recorded by Kuersteiner and several friends from WEGL at Auburn (Corry Smith, Lynn Worthington, and Tommy Smeltzer). The first side represents what a modern listener might hear skimming across the radio dial, while the second side gives a glimpse as to what a listener in the distant future might hear doing the same thing.
